Home Buyer Beware: Dual Agency
In Massachusetts, real estate agents may choose to practice “dual agency” which means they work with the home buyer and home seller in the same transaction.
My policy is to avoid dual agency so that I can represent my Client’s best interests with undivided loyalty. I do not work with home buyers and sellers in the same transaction because it creates an obvious conflict of interest.
You have the right to choose a level of agency representation. A real estate agent is required to not only inform, but also receive consent, from both the buyer and seller if they want to work with both sides in the same transaction.
The best advice is to hire a Home Buyer Agent who will only represent your best interests as the home buyer. Avoid conflict of interest and receive the strongest representation possible with the purchase of such a significant investment as your home.
